Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have already started work on signing £50m player with interest ‘confirmed’

Liverpool are beginning to get serious in the transfer market this summer.

The Reds have so far decided to stay out of things, with the window taking a back seat to the ongoing international tournaments.

But with Arne Slot having now been officially unveiled as the new Liverpool head coach, hopefully there can start to be some movement.

There does not need to be a major overhaul in the Liverpool squad, nothing drastic needs to happen. But one or two tweaks will give Slot a better chance of success next season.

Central defence is one area Liverpool are said to be prioritising and they’re now making concrete steps to bring a new player through the door.

Liverpool ‘making steps’ towards Leny Yoro signing

Some supporters will no doubt be starting to feel a little anxious over Liverpool’s lack of activity in the window.

It’s all well and good enjoying the Euros – and they have been great so far – but the Reds will be back in action in no time at all.

FSG tend to have Liverpool as well run as anyone during transfer time though. Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and the rest all know what they’re doing.

As a result, fans can rest assured that there’s lots going on behind the scenes at Anfield.

Something that has been occurring in front of the curtain is Liverpool’s pursuit of Lille centre-back Leny Yoro. The Reds have been positioning themselves to sign the 18-year-old in case favourites Real Madrid slip up in their own attempts.

And speaking on his YouTube channel on Thursday, journalist Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool have already ‘made some steps’ towards Yoro.

“Liverpool already confirmed their interest to the player’s side, they already made some steps on this,” says the transfer expert.

“They feel that Real Madrid are there favourite in this story, but they are there in case something happens between Real Madrid and Yoro.”

Leny Yoro decision surely coming soon

Liverpool can’t hang on forever to see what Real Madrid decide to do regarding Yoro.

The European champions seem to have some reservations about meeting Yoro’s reported £50m asking price. It feels like if they’d have wanted to, they’d have done that by now.

As a result, Liverpool should take this chance to push ahead on the youngster. From a Lille point of view, they will want to know what’s going on with their player sooner rather than later, too.

It’s clear that Yoro wants to join Real Madrid. But if they are messing both he and his club around, then there’s an opportunity there for other teams.

In that scenario, Liverpool are clearly positioning themselves to be at the head of the queue.

They’re not alone in doing so, Romano confirms that both Man United and especially PSG are also doing the same. But the longer this goes on, the stronger Liverpool’s chances should become.
