‘I know the reasons’: Argentine media share why Enzo Fernandez was dropped for first Copa America game

Last night saw the Copa America get underway, and World Cup winners Argentina get their campaign underway in winning fashion up against Canada.

However, their 2-0 win did not have the usual Chelsea presence that the national team side often has, especially during their quest to win it all in Qatar.

Enzo Fernandez made it clear that he was desperate to play for his country this summer, with him sacrificing his last few weeks of the campaign for Chelsea to undergo surgery for a long-standing injury.

It had seemed as if this decision had paid off when he got minutes in both the warm up fixtures, although he was nowhere to be seen in the starting side last night.

He remained on the bench for the entire game, with some being shocked that this was the case.

Why Enzo Fernandez was dropped for Argentina

A journalist working forTYCSports has claimed they are aware of why the decision was made, with Liverpool man Alexis Mac Allister one of those who benfitted.

They said: “One of the surprises of the day was that Enzo Fernández, a regular starter, did not see any minutes in the match. I know the reasons.

“The 23-year-old footballer started on the substitute bench due to a tactical decision by Lionel Scaloni , who preferred to set up the midfield for the debut with Rodrigo De Paul, Leandro Paredes and Alexis Mac Allister.”

The piece goes on to say that he is now in optimal physical condition and ready to feature if he is called upon during this competition.

Chelsea fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on his performances in a similar way to how they will Moises Caicedo, whose campaign is set to get underway very soon with Ecuador.

He is not the only Blues representative playing in the iconic yellow colours, with future star Kendry Paez set for a huge breakout tournament in the side.
