Norwich City boss re-affirms Adam Idah plan amid Brendan Rodgers' wish to have him at Celtic

Adam Idah is back at Norwich City following his excellent loan spell at Celtic in the second half of last campaign.

The Republic of Ireland international scored nine times and laid on two assists in 19 appearances across all competitions, becoming a cult hero among the Parkhead support [Transfermarkt].

Brendan Rodgers made it clear after Idah’s goalscoring exploits in the Scottish Cup final against Rangers that he would like to bring him back to Celtic permanently.

After revealing he has explained his desire to the club hierarchy, he stated: “He’s been absolutely immense for us and he’s clearly someone I’d like to do something with.”

Reports at the start of the month indicated Norwich manager Johannes Hoff Thorup would be keen to take a look at Idah in pre-season before coming to a final decision on his future. Now, the 35-year-old has addressed the Cork-born man’s predicament.

Cited via Pink Un, the Norwich boss re-affirmed his desire to run the rule over Idah, stating: “Yes, definitely with that guy (Idah). He’s an exciting player. And he’s from here, and he’s been in the club so many years and can do dangerous stuff up front. He’s fast, he moves well, he gets into these areas in the box where you decide games. So definitely, I will have a look at him; I think otherwise, it will be stupid.”

Later on during Thorup’s official unveiling, Canaries sporting director Ben Knapton also clarified the Sky Bet Championship will need to enact sales to internally finance their summer activity.

Despite optimism that Idah could return to Celtic, it appears Rodgers and company may be made to wait a while yet before finding out their chances of being able to land the Irishman.

Undoubtedly, his presence was a pivotal factor in the Bhoys’ double-winning success last term. Without the 23-year-old’s exploits, a different story could’ve unfolded on that front.

Nevertheless, Celtic can’t wait forever to see if they can tempt Idah back north of the border. In an ideal world, a deal would already be on the verge of completion, but he is contractually a Norwich player until 2028, which may complicate the ongoing pursuit.

Hopefully, clarification can come to the fore sooner rather than later. The Parkhead faithful would love Idah back at Celtic; nevertheless, mitigating factors could slow down a potential agreement being found.
