Man City fans spotted a dream Pep Guardiola signing during Italy vs Spain at Euro 2024 and he'd cost just £49m

Manchester City fans believe they watched a player who would be perfect for Pep Guardiola’s side during the Euro 2024 clash between Spain and Italy on Thursday.

Following England’s desperately disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark in their second match of Group C, Spain and Italy took the field and the contrast in quality couldn’t have been higher.

Spain dominated the match with 58 per cent possession and 20 shots to four but only managed to score once, and it wasn’t even from one of those shots.

Centre-back Riccardo Calafiori stuck the ball into the back of his own net in rather hilarious fashion to decide the match.

But there was at least quality in the build-up to the goal from one of the stand-out players of the tournament so far, Nico Williams.

The electric winger danced down the left flank before delivering the ball into the box which eventually ricocheted into the goal.

Williams has been earning plaudits for his performances so far in Euro 2024 and Manchester City fans think he’d be a great fit at the club.

Man City fans left very impressed by Nico Williams in Euro 2024

City fans took to X, formerly Twitter, during the game to heap praise on Williams and urge the club to make a move for the Athletic Bilbao star in the transfer window.

One user asked: “Shouldn’t Nico Williams be on City’s list of players to buy this summer?” before another added: “Wouldn’t mind Nico Williams at City.”

An optimistic fan posted: “Welcome to Man City, Nico Williams. You’re gonna love it here!” Then another wrote: “Pep will be eyeing this Nico Williams. The boy is good.”

Those thoughts were echoed by another fan who wrote: “Nico Williams has Man City move written all over him. Top talent, that kind of wide man Pep likes too.”

Though some fans disagreed by pointing out City don’t need another left winger, another said: “I’d take Nico Williams over both Doku and Grealish any day.”

Should Man City sign Nico Williams?

As things stand, there isn’t much need for City to add yet another left winger to their ranks.

With Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish as natural left-wingers as well as the likes of Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva who can also play there, Pep Guardiola is well-stocked in the position.

Yet, that could always change. Grealish fell out of favour last season and struggled for form, leading to missing out on the England squad for the Euros.

Should he wish to leave for more guaranteed minutes, then City would need a replacement and Williams would fit the bill.

It helps that the 21-year-old wouldn’t break the bank, either, as Fabrizio Romano reports he has a release clause of just £49m.

City have had a quiet start to the summer and fans are probably desperate for there to be just any signing regardless of who it is.
