"Exciting" Crystal Palace gem to miss out on loan move to league winning EFL side - Journalist

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi had a frustrating 2023/24 at Crystal Palace and he’s now been dealt yet another blow.

While Jesurun Rak-Sakyi’s campaign ended up quite frustrating, it began quite well as he made six Crystal Palace appearances in the opening nine games.

This was until October 27th when he made his final appearance of the season in the Premier League with 30 minutes against Spurs.

After this, he spent 24 games on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, and then couldn’t force his way into Oliver Glasner’s team.

Now, 12 months after being denied a loan move, he’s just suffered yet another disappointment.

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi to suffer Portsmouth disappointment

After this season, a loan move is likely Rak-Sakyi’s best move in order to get more game time and try to return to where he was as a footballer 12 months ago.

Prior to this summer, it looked as though he’d be getting that loan to an exciting club on the up in the EFL, League One winners Portsmouth. This was reported in May and it’d have been ideal for him.

But now Portsmouth expert and journalist Andrew Moon has tweeted an update on the prospective loan move for Rak-Sakyi.

He wrote: “A Pompey pursuit for Crystal Palace this summer winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is now looking very unlikely”.

This will be hugely disappointing for the 21-year-old exciting prospect, following his frustrating campaign with the Eagles.

What needs to happen with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi?

After his impressive season during 2022/23 at Charlton on loan, many were expecting 2023/24 to be when Rak-Sakyi really kicked on and made a name for himself.

Last summer, he had interest from several clubs including Championship-winning Leicester City who wanted him on loan, Sunderland and Blackburn.

But he ultimately was retained at Selhurst Park at Roy Hodgson’s request only for the former manager to fail to utilise him properly, and that combined with injuries meant he got just 232 minutes of senior football all season.

Now it appears history could be repeating itself as he’s denied a loan to Pompey.

If he is to return to the player who was labelled as “exciting” last summer, he needs a loan and it must be to the right club.
