'Wonderful': Clinton Morrison stunned by 'top-class' £30m Arsenal player at Euro 2024 yesterday

Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko was in Euro 2024 action on Friday night as Ukraine took on Slovakia in Dusseldorf.

The Gunners ace won his 65th cap as his nation came from behind to stun Slovakia and earn their first win of the tournament.

Ivan Schranz headed Slovakia in front on 17 minutes before Mykola Shaparenko pulled Ukraine back with a 54th-minute equaliser

Substitute Roman Yaremchuk then put Ukraine in front on 80 minutes, and the team in yellow hung on to get off the mark in Group E.

Zinchenko played a significant role in Ukraine’s equaliser, with a superb square pass for Shaparenko in the middle of the penalty box.

BBC Sport pundit Clinton Morrison loved what he saw from the Arsenal ace and sung his praises just after the goal.

Arsenal star Oleksandr Zinchenko hailed for ‘wonderful’ Ukraine assist

“The quality on the delivery from Oleksandr Zinchenko is wonderful, a top class pick out,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Most full-backs would’ve just fizzed that into the area but he picks out Mykola Shaparenko who caresses it into that far bottom corner.”

Morrison then mentioned the £30million Gunners man again at the end of the game, saying how well he had done down the left for Ukraine.

“It is brilliant for Ukraine, the players, the fans, a fantastic second half performance to come back and get a big win,” he said.

“The first half Slovakia were the better team but credit to Ukraine, their big players stepped up.

“Oleksandr Zinchenko and Mykhailo Mudryk were brilliant down that left hand side. Then the goal from Roman Yaremchuk to win it.”

What’s next for Ukraine at Euro 2024?

Ukraine are next up against Belgium on Wednesday, and Zinchenko will hope to repeat his heroics and help get his nation into the last 16 of the tournament.

Zinchenko’s country reached the quarter-finals at Euro 2020 and also made it to the final eight at the 2006 World Cup.

With points now on board, Ukraine will certainly fancy their chances of reaching the knockout stages once again.
