Zhaqanbaev voluntarily approached Kazakhstan's internal affairs authorities on June 21, where he was questioned about the circumstances of the case. Later that day, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Search measures are currently underway to locate the second suspect, Meiram Qarataev.

Assassination attempt on Aydos Sadykov in Kyiv

The assassination attempt occurred in central Kyiv on June 18, where Sadykov, known for his critical stance against the Kazakh authorities, was shot in his car. He remains in serious condition following surgery. Sadykov's wife Natalya Sadykova has publicly accused Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of orchestrating the attack, suggesting the involvement of a professional hitman.

In response to the incident, President Tokayev said that Kazakhstan's official authorities are prepared to assist in the investigation. The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation into the attempted premeditated murder under Ukrainian criminal law.

Ukrainian police announced on June 21 that they identified two suspects in the attempted assassination of Sadykov. Qarataev is a police officer from Kostanay Oblast in Kazakhstan and a skilled marksman, having won first place in a shooting competition among employees, Sadykova said.
