Report: Liverpool considering bid for 'fantastic' £60m Calafiori alternative; he's started two games at the Euros

Liverpool are keen on bringing new players in over the summer and could now look to sign one of the star defenders of Euro 2024.

The Reds have already been linked with new players and with Arne Slot now officially taking over at Anfield and on Merseyside, things can start to ramp up.

Recent reports have seen the Reds linked with a move for Italy and Bologna defender, Riccardo Calafiori.

The Italian starred under Thiago Motta last season and has admirers across the Premier League.

However, according to a report from The Mirror, it is another Euro 2024 defender who is also on Liverpool’s radar.

Liverpool considering bid for Marc Guehi

According to the report, Liverpool really like the idea of signing Guehi and are keeping a close eye on his situation at Palace.

The 23-year-old has started both of England’s games this summer and looked assured next to John Stones at the heart of the defence.

One sticking point for Liverpool could be the £60m price tag that Palace have put on Guehi.

And it’s also claimed that with each passing Euros performance in which he does well, Palace will use that as reason to further ramp up the price.

Liverpool also have young defender Jarrell Quansah in the ranks and it’s suggested that due to the £60m ask for Guehi, Arne Slot could well stick with Quansah.

Have Liverpool given up on Ibou Konate?

It’s an odd situation to see Liverpool being linked so heavily with new defenders this summer.

While all the best teams can get better somehow, the Reds do have Van Dijk, Konate, Quansah and even Joe Gomez as options in there.

It begs the question, then, if Liverpool have almost given up Konate being the man to partner Van Dijk in the long-term.

Spending £60m on Marc Guehi is a move that says the Reds will play him and sign him as a starter.

If the Guehi deal does happen, then French star Konate will be wondering what his future holds and it could well swing the door open for him to make a swift exit.
