'Very, very poor': Cesc Fabregas says France player linked with Liverpool was terrible at Euro 2024 yesterday

Liverpool are keeping an eye on the summer international tournaments as they assess their transfer options.

The Reds are yet to make any concrete moves in the market as they wait for the Copa America and Euro 2024 to settle down.

In the meantime, Arne Slot is settling into life at Anfield and the new head coach will certainly be keeping watch over the two competitions to see who is impressing.

Not only do Liverpool have 14 players representing their countries in the USA and Germany, they’ve also been linked with a host of others who are featuring.

Some of those are playing very well. Spain’s Nico Williams, for example, or Riccardo Calafiori of Italy. But according to pundit Cesc Fabregas, there is one who has not been good at all.

Cesc Fabregas blasts Adrien Rabiot performance

Liverpool are reportedly looking for a new centre-back as a priority this summer. There have also been claims that Slot would like another forward.

Beyond those two more immediate needs though, it’s also a possibility that Liverpool could bring in another midfielder.

Although they already have numerous options in the first-team squad, the Reds are always looking for opportunities in the transfer market.

This one does seem unlikely, but according to Italian outlet Sport Italia, Liverpool think they might have found one such opportunity in France midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Rabiot is set to be out of contract with Juventus in a matter of weeks. As a result, the Reds are reportedly weighing up making an approach for the 29-year-old.

Should that be the case, then Liverpool may not have been impressed by what they saw from Rabiot on Friday. The Frenchman missed a wonderful first-half chance to put his team ahead against the Netherlands.

Speaking on the BBC’s coverage of the game at full-time, former Arsenal and Chelsea man Fabregas slammed Rabiot for what he saw as a ‘very, very poor’ piece of play.

“He doesn’t even look,” laments the pundit. “I mean, for me, that is very, very poor. A player of this level, you know, playing for Juventus, in a quality team, international player, I think you have to do better than that.”

No chance Liverpool come in for Adrien Rabiot

Liverpool fans will be well used to seeing their club linked with a possible move for Rabiot.

The former PSG midfielder was suggested as a possibility for Liverpool last summer. Just as he is this year, the World Cup finalist was due to be out of contract at the end of the season.

But with Liverpool scouts supposedly watching on, Rabiot signed a one-year extension to stay with Juventus.

12 months on, we’d suggest that Rabiot is about to do the same again. He has become an important player at Juve and they’ll surely be keen to keep him.

Even if Rabiot does leave Turin, there’s virtually no chance of him ending up at Anfield. The player’s mother is his agent and is well known to have massive demands for her son.

Now 29, looking for big wages and playing poorly on the international stage, we’d be amazed to see Liverpool be anywhere near Rabiot.
