Ilkay Gundogan has suggested that Man City have someone who is better than Mohamed Salah

Ilkay Gundogan has arguably been one of Manchester City’s best signings of the Pep Guardiola era.

Brought in from Borussia Dortmund as Guardiola’s first signing as City manager in 2016, the midfielder scored 60 goals, delivered 38 assists and won numerous trophies in 304 appearances across all competitions.

During his seven years at the Etihad Stadium, the German played with and against a wide range of top-level stars.

Having completed his debut season at Barcelona since leaving City as a free agent after captaining the Blues to their historic Treble, Gundogan has shared his verdict on two of the Premier League’s biggest names, one of which he knows very well from his time in Manchester.

Ilkay Gundogan suggests former Man City teammate is better than Mohamed Salah

Featuring in a video shared on John Nellis’ TikTok channel, Gundogan was asked to pick who he thinks is better among certain players across European football right now.

When asked to choose between Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, the former City captain picked the Belgian.

During their time at the Manchester club, the duo played in 196 games together across all competitions, racking up nine joint goal participations along the way.

Two of those goals came during the 2023 FA Cup final where De Bruyne assisted both of Gundogan’s goals in the 2-1 win over Manchester United.

De Bruyne and Salah are two of the best in Premier League history

Bearing in mind how Salah has scored 211 goals in 349 appearances for Liverpool, there’s no doubt that he and De Bruyne are and have been two of the best players in the Premier League for a considerable amount of time.

In fact, back in May, David Beckham said that he considers the City midfielder to be a better player than his old Manchester United teammate Paul Scholes.

Overall, while most City supporters may not be surprised that Gundogan picked De Bruyne over Salah in this instance, we feel that the fact the Belgian has won six Premier League titles and the Liverpool winger has only won one makes De Bruyne the right pick.
