Report: How Newcastle have reacted to Sir Jim Ratcliffe calling them 'difficult' and 'awkward'

Newcastle United are still involved in something of a saga, albeit behind the scenes.

Indeed, for all the talk of potential incomings this summer, it is an outgoing at Newcastle who is currently dominating a lot of the headlines.

Dan Ashworth, of course, remains on gardening leave amid interest from Manchester United.

As it stands, the sporting director will remain on leave until the end of 2025.

Clearly, it’s a bit of a messy situation.

Newcastle do not have a sporting director but, naturally, are not prepared to be bossed around by those at Old Trafford.

Man United’s minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has constantly made remarks about the club’s position. In February, he labelled Newcastle’s conduct as “silly” and earlier this week suggested the Magpies were being “very difficult and very awkward”.

Now, some insight into Newcastle’s reaction has emerged.

How Newcastle have reacted to Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s comments

According to The Chronicle, the club are unfazed about Ratcliffe’s latest outburst.

In fact, they are still prepared to let the Manchester giants wait 18 months to get their man unless they meet their demands of £20m.

Newcastle send clear statement of intent to Manchester United

Obviously, Ashworth leaving so early into his tenure would not have been in the plans for Newcastle.

Still, they have proven they will not be dictated to by another club, which certainly lays down a marker when it comes to potentially having to deal with offers for star players.

In an ideal world, Newcastle would have a replacement soon enough. Until that point, however, it’s fantastic to see them refuse to be bullied.

With Steve Nickson overseeing the club’s summer business, there is no need to rush. Unless Ratcliffe pays up, he can continue delivering all the little digs he wants.

It’s getting him nowhere as things stand.
