Report: Arne Slot has doubled the asking price to sell 'world class' Liverpool player this summer

Liverpool don’t look likely to make too many changes to the first-team squad this summer.

The Reds are still yet to make a signing as we approach July, with big changes at the club hampering any possibility for transfers.

As Arne Slot settles in further to his new role at Anfield, it still seems likely that Liverpool will make a couple of additions in the next two months.

Rumours are ramping up that the likes of Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams could be arriving, for example.

On the other side of that, there could well be one or two exits from Liverpool as well. But according to reports this weekend, the Reds will not be selling players on the cheap.

Liverpool set hefty Caoimhin Kelleher asking price

There is uncertainty surrounding quite a few of the Liverpool squad as Slot takes over from Jurgen Klopp.

Big players like Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have been attracting interest and their futures remain a talking point.

Other, more squad type players have also been rumoured to be on the chopping block. Kostas Tsimikas looks like he could leave after dropping to third-choice left-back next season.

It remains to be seen exactly what kind of fee Liverpool would be looking for in order to sell Tsimikas. But it feels likely that it would have to be more than the £12m they paid for the Greek in 2020.

Another to be have had plenty of talk about where he’ll be playing next season is back-up goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

After admitting that he wants to be number one somewhere, Kelleher looks like a top candidate to be sold in the coming weeks.

However, according to The Mirror, Liverpool are going to do their best to get full value out of the Irishman if they do indeed sell him.

Although it’s claimed that the Reds will not necessarily stand in Kelleher’s way if an offer comes in, they reportedly don’t want to lose him. As a result, it’s said that any bid would have to hit an amazing £40m before they considered letting the 25-year-old go.

What is fair value for Caoimhin Kelleher?

Kelleher’s situation at Liverpool is a delicate one. Although you’d have to say that he looks ready to leave, the Reds are well within their rights to ensure they do not get short-changed.

Goalkeeper’s are a strangely undervalued commodity in the transfer market. But that does look as though it’s beginning to change.

Whoever buys Kelleher this summer would be getting a first choice goalkeeper. Having played so well for Liverpool this season, the Ireland international could join a club at a very good level.

Van Dijk described Kelleher as being ‘world class‘ earlier in the campaign and you don’t get players like that on the cheap.

Having said that, Kelleher needs football. He’s an asset to Liverpool and they can pick up a new back-up goalie on the cheap. So, for us, Liverpool’s previously reported price-tag of £20m sounds like fair value. Should that have now doubled, we can’t really see anyone paying it.
