Report: Tottenham now set to battle Man City for signing of ‘superb’ player, he’ll cost just £20m

Tottenham Hotspur may have just received a boost when it comes to signing a player who is of strong interest to them this summer.

Spurs are searching for fresh options at full-back as they prepare for the possible departure of Emerson Royal.

Monaco’s Vanderson is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar but Ange Postecoglou could look at a younger alternative.

Indeed, Tottenham are keen on Leeds United youngster Archie Gray after missing out on signing him before he penned his first professional deal with the Whites.

The 18-year-old racked up 52 appearances under Daniel Farke last season and enjoyed a real breakthrough year at Elland Road.

But according to The Sun, Spurs will face competition from Manchester City for the youngster’s signature.

Tottenham face competition for Archie Gray signing

The Sun [23/06, page 56] claims that Spurs are set to battle both Man City and Liverpool for the signing of Gray this summer.

Borussia Dortmund have apparently been put off a move for the Whites academy product due to Leeds’ £20 million asking price.

But the newspaper also claims that Leeds are ready to sell Gray after missing out on promotion to the Premier League.

Tottenham’s other right-back options

Gray emerged as a real prospect in the Championship last season after some excellent performance at right-back.

The midfielder was lauded as ‘superb’ by Farke and would fit into Postecoglou’s system due to his ability to invert.

But Spurs have also been heavily linked with moves for Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida and Vanderson, both more experienced options.

It also feels unlikely that Leeds would be willing to offload Gray for just £20 million after the youngster penned a new long-term deal in January.

Gray is homegrown and as he is receiving admiring glances from a host of top sides in England, you’d expect Farke’s side to request the premium price if they are to cash-in this summer.
