Gabby Agbonlahor gives his one-word reaction to imminent £37m Aston Villa transfer coup

Gabby Agbonlahor has shared his verdict on one pending deal at Aston Villa as the summer transfer window heats up.

It’s been a flying start to the summer for Unai Emery and Monchi, who have work to do to ensure Aston Villa don’t breach PSR.

Several deals are expected to go over the line before June 30th to aid the club’s PSR concerns, with Tim Iroegbunam starting the exodus with his move to Everton.

As well as the increased number of departures, the Villans are poised to welcome some new faces, with one pending arrival pleasing Gabby Agbonlahor.

Gabby Agbonlahor reacts to Aston Villa move for Chelsea defender Ian Maatsen

Last week, it was announced by David Ornstein that Villa had reached an ‘agreement’ to sign Ian Maatsen from Chelsea.

The left-back will be purchased for a fee around £37m, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano who shared an update on Villa’s recent work with the Blues.

Since the Maatsen news, Monchi has collaborated further with Chelsea as Omari Kellyman is poised to make a £19m move to Stamford Bridge, two deals that have pleased Agbonlahor.

The former Villa striker gave a one-word reaction to the transfers, lauding Villa’s ‘clever’ work in striking two separate deals to work the financial system to actually aid PSR worries.

Chelsea will earn significant profit through the sale of academy graduate Maatsen, whilst Villa will also earn great profit from the shock sale of Kellyman, who was purchased for £600,000 only two years ago.

At the start of the window, it was Conor Gallagher and Jhon Duran who formed transfer links between Villa and Chelsea, with the outcome being an even greater coup for the Villans.

Villa’s work with Chelsea proves Monchi’s worth

While many will be disheartened by the news of Kellyman’s departure, the arrival of Maatsen will be hugely beneficial to Emery’s squad.

The 22-year-old had a searing half-season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, seeing him reach the Champions League final and be named in the tournament’s Team of the Season.

Given that Emery requires a new left-back and a player with experience of playing in the competition, Villa have struck gold in signing Maatsen, who has proven his capability at the top level.

Not only can the left-back hand the boss qualities that he doesn’t currently have, but can offer a stylish style of play on the left side and an upgrade on both Lucas Digne and Alex Moreno.

It’s a spectacular move for Villa and one that Agbonlahor is rightly celebrating, as Monchi continues to flex his prowess in the transfer market amid the club’s PSR concerns.
