Aston Villa transfer twist emerges in Douglas Luiz swap as new ‘obstacle’ now threatens deal

Aston Villa will be hoping to get the deal for Douglas Luiz over the line promptly however, one big change could be made.

Douglas Luiz looks set to leave Aston Villa in the coming days as Monchi and Unai Emery aim to alleviate PSR concerns.

The Villans must make a profit before June 30th in order to avoid a breach of PSR, with the Brazilian’s exit critical to adhering to financial orders.

While the deal gathered pace last week, some areas have slowed due to those involved in the swap, with one interesting outcome of the transfer now suggested.

Weston McKennie may not be involved in Aston Villa swap deal with Juventus for Douglas Luiz

The two players who are proposed to arrive at Villa Park in exchange for Luiz are Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior.

While Iling-Junior has reportedly agreed a move to Villa, there are problems surrounding the American’s stance, with multiple reports speculating what has caused the transfer to stall.

Fabrizio Romano suggested that McKennie’s issue is with Juventus as he navigates the financial terms of an exit in his contract although, further speculation suggests an unexpected scenario.

Journalist Luca Marchetti claimed that the midfielder’s involvement in the swap may not be as secure as initially thought, with a financial ‘obstacle to overcome’.

As relayed by Bianconeri News, Marchetti explained that there are two outcomes, one of which being that McKennie ‘will have to be replaced by someone else’.

Marchetti did disclose that he sees such hypothesis as unlikely, adding that the turbulence between McKennie’s finances and Juventus is ‘normal’ in this situation.

Villa are running out of time to accommodate McKennie buffer

Given that Villa’s eyes are firmly on the June 30th deadline to fall within the PSR boundaries, the current stumbling block in the deal will frustrate the Midlands club.

It seems as though aside from McKennie’s financial desires regarding Juventus, the transfer is at a green light, with Luiz and Iling-Junior both ready to swap shirts.

Ironically, McKennie is the part of the deal that has received the most attention, with many having questions about the United States international’s suitability to replace Luiz.

With time ticking and more deals to be done at Villa, there will be hope that a fast solution can be found in order to fire the transaction over the line in good time before the end of the month.
