Gabby Agbonlahor hilariously reacts to news that another Aston Villa youngster could be sold

Aston Villa may see another of their young talents depart and club legend Gabby Agbonlahor has reacted to the news the same way most fans will have.

20-year-old Tim Iroegbunam departed Aston Villa for Everton for a £9 million fee on Saturday and it looks as though 18-year-old Omari Kellyman is set to follow him out of Villa Park.

Kellyman looks likely to join Chelsea for a fee of around £19 million after just six senior Villa appearances, with the fact Chelsea, Villa and Everton all looking to trade players undoubtedly linked to the three clubs’ financial concerns.

All three clubs are at risk of breaching Premier League Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) and have until the 30th June deadline to ensure their finances are in order.

Now another Villa youngster could leave, with Nottingham Forest the interested club this time.

Nottingham Forest interested in Aston Villa’s Lamare Bogarde

Villa are clearly utilising their academy to generate income, with youth players representing pure profit in accounting terms as a fee has generally not been paid to sign them.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that this could be the case for another young Villa talent in Lamare Bogarde, as he posted on ‘X’: ‘Nottingham Forest have approached Aston Villa to open talks for 2004 born talent Lamare Bogarde.

Deal would be worth around €4m (£3.4m), final say will be with the player to decide.’

Bogarde actually moved to Villa in September 2020 from Feyenoord in his homeland and has made just one appearance for The Villans in an FA Cup third round tie against Liverpool in 2021.

A defensive midfielder, the 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers in League One where he clearly impressed enough to attract the interest of Nottingham Forest.

Gabby Agbonlahor reacts to news of potential Bogarde sale

Last summer, Villa sold two academy gems in Carney Chukwuemeka and Cameron Archer for a combined fee of around £38 million.

Archer has since returned, with the terms of his transfer to Sheffield United stating Villa would have to buy the striker back if they were relegated, so Monchi needs to find a new buyer.

Villa fans may be growing tired of seeing their best young academy talents leave the club, but will perhaps view it as a better solution than losing high-profile first team players to balance the books.

Gabby Agbonlahor took to ‘X’ to respond to Romano breaking the news of Forest’s interest in Bogarde which could see yet another youth talent leave, posting: ‘At least £30 million!’

Whilst Agbonlahor’s tongue in cheek comment looks to be well wide of the actual likely fee of around £3.4 million, this still represents a sale of pure, immediate profit ahead of the PSR deadline for a player who is unlikely to break into the first team anytime soon.

Therefore, whilst perhaps frustrating, this could be another good bit of business for Villa should it be confirmed.
