The fee Newcastle could be about to pay to sign 'bully' Eddie Howe has wanted for two years - journalist

Newcastle United may be closing in on their second signing of the summer.

It has been a proactive approach from Newcastle in the opening stages of this summer’s transfer window.

Indeed, Lloyd Kelly has already arrived, while the club tried to sign both Michael Olise and Tosin Adarabioyo before losing out to Bayern Munich and Chelsea respectively.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford is also thought to be a target, while a player-plus-cash offer to sign Wolves defender Max Kilman with Elliot Anderson going the other way was reportedly submitted.

It has been a whirlwind few hours for supporters given all of the news and that’s without even mentioning reports surrounding Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Telegraph claimed on Saturday that Newcastle were closing in on a deal to sign the Everton forward. Interestingly, The Athletic then added that Eddie Howe has been interested in the striker since the summer of 2022.

Hailed as a “bully” at his best by Gary Neville, more insight into the deal that could bring Calvert-Lewin to St James’ Park has now emerged.

How much money Newcastle could be paying for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

According to journalist Joel Bland on X (formerly Twitter), sources have suggested the fee to sign Calvert-Lewin could be around the £20m mark.

Calvert-Lewin has just a year left on his contract at Goodison Park and the reports on Saturday suggested he would be open to the move.

Newcastle already have a plan for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin bagged only eight goals in 38 appearances last season, so would hardly be arriving in the best form.

Still, it seems those at Newcastle already have something of a plan for him.

They believe Howe’s guidance would yield a vast improvement out of the striker, who shone under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton during their brief time together.

Having improved players before, it would not be much of a surprise to see Howe work his magic again.
