Report: Chelsea are now trying to agree deal to sign £49m player after Michael Olise blow

Chelsea have quickly turned their attention elsewhere after cooling their interest in Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise.

Michael Olise was reportedly Chelsea’s top target this summer.

However, according to The Athletic, the Blues ended their pursuit of the winger after being put off by the finances involved in the deal to sign him.

The same outlet has claimed that Olise is now close to joining Bayern Munich.

As for Chelsea, they now seem to have another winger high on their shortlist.

Chelsea’s Michael Olise alternative

Olise would have come in to strengthen Chelsea on the right wing.

The France U21 international played there for Palace last season, helping Oliver Glasner’s men to finish in the top half of the Premier League table.

After losing out on him, though, it now looks like Chelsea are going to turn their attention to signing a left winger instead.

According to gianlucadimarzio.com, the Blues are pushing to find an agreement with Athletic Bilbao for Nico Williams.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed on Substack that the 21-year-old actually has a £49m release clause in his contract.

Nico Williams impressing at Euro 2024

Williams’ value is probably going up right now. The wide man has shone for Spain at Euro 2024.

He was excellent in his country’s 1-0 win against Italy, recording four dribbles during the game. It was the joint-highest in the match, according to WhoScored.

Williams also made four key passes, more than any other player on the Arena AufSchalke pitch.

He really showed his creativity that day and it is not a shock to hear that Chelsea are now pushing for his signature.

It is not good news for Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling, who were the Blues’ two main options for the left flank last season.

It will be interesting to see what happens with them if Williams ends up at Stamford Bridge, especially the former, who is the fourth-most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history.
