After a fast start to the summer transfer window, Aston Villa have welcomed Lewis Dobbin to the club from Everton.

The 21-year-old arrives days after Tim Iroegbunam’s transfer to Goodison Park, completing a £10m move from his boyhood club after making 12 Premier League appearances last season.

Now, the forward has penned his first message to Villa fans after signing his contract, taking to Instagram to share his thoughts on the transfer.

Villa announced that they are ‘pleased’ to welcome Dobbin to the club, via Aston Villa’s official website, who becomes Villa’s first official signing of the summer.

The versatile attacker posted a photo of himself next to Monchi at Bodymoor Heath, admitting that he is ‘so happy’ to be joining Unai Emery’s project.

‘So Happy To be Joining Such A huge Club With Big Ambitions. An Incredible Opportunity, I Can’t Wait To Get Started And Give My All For This Club. See You All At Villa Park! UTV.’

Dobbin will arrive at Villa Park having scored one Premier League goal in 12 appearances in 2023/24, a campaign that marked his breakthrough in and around Everton’s first team.

Dobbin capture should excite many at Villa

While securing the dynamic Englishman is not the blockbuster signing that fans are craving, Dobbin can offer Emery something exciting in his versatility and approach to play.

The forward was a popular figure at Goodison Park, having risen through the academy before taking on a decisive loan spell at Derby County over the 2022/23 season.

That year, the youngster acquired 54 appearances at senior level, seeing him described as ‘outstanding’ by Derby manager Paul Warne, via LimerickLive.

It’s an encouraging signing for Villa, who could unearth another top young English talent, with Emery’s work with Morgan Rogers setting the benchmark for those of his profile.

Deployable on either flank and as a striker, it will be interesting to see where the manager sees Dobbin’s best position, with plenty of opportunities up for grabs as Villa prepare for the 2024/25 campaign.

For Villa and Dobbin, the timing of the transfer falls perfectly as the Englishman will now spend the entire pre-season with his new club ahead of what is poised to be a thrilling next season for the Villans.
