Report: Leeds eye 'unstoppable' attacker set to play under Jesse Marsch at Copa America

Leeds United could be about to strengthen their ties with Jesse Marsch once again and sign a player currently working under the manager with the Canada National Team.

A new right-back, a replacement for Joe Rodon, cover at left-back, a new midfielder and possibly a new no.10 are areas Leeds need to consider strengthening in the summer but the priority has to be wingers.

Leeds have already waved goodbye to Jaidon Anthony, who returns to Bournemouth after a loan spell at Elland Road. Crysencio Summerville is expected to go with numerous clubs chasing the Dutchman.

Willy Gnonto is also expected to end his two-year spell at Leeds with Nottingham Forest tabling a bid to sign the Italy star, worth £16.9m. Ian Poveda’s contract is about to end after a loan away from the club.

A new winger is crucial then and Leeds could look to bring in a player working under Marsch right now:

Leeds eye Canada ace working with Jesse Marsch at Copa America

Labelled “unstoppable” by Preston captain Alan Browne, Liam Millar is a target for Leeds. The 24-year-old spent the 2023-24 season on loan at Preston from Swiss side FC Basel, where has a year left on his deal.

That is according to The Athletic, who say Leeds are tracking the winger ahead of representing Marsch’s new side Canada at Copa America. They kick off this summer’s campaign on Tuesday night against Peru.

Last season at Deepdale, Millar had a hand in 10 goals in 35 Championship games but Leeds fans will remember the torment he gave Archie Gray during a 2-1 win for the Lilywhites as Illan Meslier saw red.

Leeds face stiff competition in race for Millar, from Chris Wilder

Last week, a report from BBC Sport reporter Adam Oxley said that Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United were closing in on a deal to sign Millar. Preston also want him but a deal is not yet in place for the Basel ace.

Millar would be an excellent signing for any Premier League club, a player that came through the ranks at Liverpool. But he only managed just one game for The Reds, going on loan to Kilmarnock and Charlton.

He has since clocked up 98 games for Basel and had a hand in 23 goals but now looks set to leave Basel permanently and return to The Championship. Clearly, he left a lasting impressing on Daniel Farke.
