Report claims moneybags Saudi club could save West Ham from big £20 million transfer mistake

West Ham United could be bailed out from a really big transfer mistake by one of the moneybags teams over in Saudi Arabia.

Julen Lopetegui faces a huge task ahead of him this summer, with numerous new signings needed at West Ham.

One of his biggest jobs will be to finally address the centre-forward problem we have at the London Stadium.

The Hammers boss is said to be prioritising the addition of a new striker, and has been linked with numerous exciting names already.

Youssef En-Nesyri is said to be Lopetegui’s main target, but Braga hitman Simon Banza is another who’s thought to be firmly on his radar.

However, there is another forward out there who’s attracting attention from the Hammers boss, and there has been a really favourable twist for us in that pursuit…

Saudi club could save West Ham from big transfer mistake

So it seems like the big money over in Saudi could be set to come to the Hammers’ rescue.

That’s because one of Lopetegui’s summer transfer targets is now being eyed up by a club in the Saudi Pro League.

According to a report from The Northern Echo, Newcastle striker Callum Wilson is being targeted by clubs out in Saudi.

The 32-year-old is believed to be a £20 million transfer target for the Hammers this summer, but signing him would be a big mistake as far as I’m concerned.

He has missed 462 days of action through injury since he moved to St James’ Park in the summer of 2020.

Wilson was a superb striker in his heyday, but he’s nowhere near the player he once was, and at 32, the only way is down from here.

West Ham can do so much better than signing Wilson this summer. The likes of Youssef En-Nesyri, Dominic Solanke, Simon Banza and Tammy Abraham should all be prioritised over the Newcastle man.

And it seems like a Saudi club could take the decision to sign Wilson out of our hands, thankfully!
