West Ham linked with shock £12.7 million move to sign Manchester City star

Manchester City left-back Sergio Gomez has emerged as a shock transfer target for West Ham United this summer, but can we realistically sign him?

West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui is on the hunt for a new left-back it seems, with the likes of Real Betis star Juan Miranda being linked with a London Stadium switch.

However, Gomez is the most exciting name that has been mentioned so far this summer regarding a potential move to the Hammers.

West Ham have been crying out for young, energetic and all-round modern day full-backs on both sides of the pitch for years now.

Emerson Palmieri and Vladimir Coufal are both very reliable players, but they will be 30 and 32 respectively by the time August rolls around.

The Hammers definitely require more pace and dynamism down our left hand flank, and Gomez would provide that for us in abundance.

The Manchester City star is an elite player, and don’t be fooled by his lack of action for the Premier League champions.

A move to East London could be on the cards for the Barcelona academy graduate, but would he actually want to join West Ham?

Sergio Gomez stance on West Ham move emerges

So, the Man City man is firmly on the Hammers’ radar this summer it seems.

Caughtoffside claim that the Hammers are interested in signing Sergio Gomez this summer and what’s more, he’s available for a real bargain fee.

West Ham could pick up the 23-year-old left-back for just €15 million (£12.7 million) in the summer transfer window.

However, Roma are chasing Gomez’s signature as well, so the Hammers won’t have a clear path to sign him.

That said, the lure of regular football in the Premier League may well be enough to tip the scales in our favour.

Bringing the Spaniard to the London Stadium should be an absolute no-brainer for Lopetegui surely. Gomez has never been given the platform to show what he’s truly capable of at Manchester City.

Since Man City signed him from Anderlecht for £11 million in the summer of 2022 (Sky Sports), he’s made just two Premier League starts under Pep Guardiola, and only has 38 appearances to his name in total.

I think he’d be a tremendous signing for the Hammers, and here’s the really good news from Caughtoffside…

Sergio Gomez is said to be open to the idea of a fresh start with West Ham United this summer.

And if Lopetegui manages to bring his fellow countryman to the London Stadium for less than £13 million, it would be a truly stunning deal for us.

The 23-year-old possesses blistering pace and has fantastic technical ability. He has real output going forward, as proven by his record of 11 goals and 22 assists from left-back in 73 league games for Anderlecht during his final two seasons with the Belgian club.

The Spaniard would provide proper competition for Emerson Palmieri, and with the Italian being heavily linked with a move back to Italy, he may well become our first-choice left-back this upcoming season.
