Photo: Matheus Franca may have just accidentally released Crystal Palace's new away shirt

Crystal Palace No.11 Matheus Franca has now uploaded a very confusing photo on Instagram – which could be the club’s new away kit for the 2024/25 campaign.

The Eagles recently released a new home strip for next season, which sees us return to the classic red and blue stripes after a 50/50 split of those colours made up the 2023/24 shirt.

However, that was all, with Crystal Palace yet to unveil the new away kit, or the new third strip.

Now – however – Matheus Franca might have just accidentally revealed one of the two…

Matheus Franca uploads strange Instagram post

The Brazil U20 international took to Instagram on Saturday to post a photo of himself alongside a friend, in which a purple Premier League shirt could be seen with M.Franca 11 on the back.

You can see the photo below.

In our view, it appears to be one of Crystal Palace’s goalkeeping shirts from the 2023/24 campaign – as you can see Dean Henderson wearing below – although it makes no sense for Franca to have printed his own name and number on the back.

We can only presume the South American’s friend is simply a big fan of goalkeeping as well as a supporter of his pal, as the image is quite puzzling, in all honesty.

As far as we can recall, Crystal Palace have never previously released a purple away shirt or a purple third shirt, so it would be a real surprise if the top in Franca’s Instagram photo is a new release.

Brazilian set for big season at Crystal Palace

It goes without saying that Franca did not exactly enjoy the most successful 2023/24 campaign – mainly through no fault of his own.

The Brazilian arrived in a £26m deal from Flamengo with a back injury which delayed his debut, and then Roy Hodgson barely gave the 20-year-old an opportunity to shine once he had regained full fitness.

Before stepping down in February, the 76-year-old only handed Franca ten appearances, totalling 281 minutes.

However, in just 48 minutes of action under Oliver Glasner, the prospect from Rio de Janeiro looked very sharp, assisting two goals in the 3-0 win over Burnley at Selhurst Park before a groin issue ended his season early.

Now, with a chance to get a full pre-season under his belt, working with a more attack-minded manager than the frustratingly negative Hodgson, the 2024/25 campaign should be much better for Franca…
