Kitchener (Ontario) The Phelps School five-star small forward Will Riley has committed to Illinois.
He chose the Fighting Illini over Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky and the New Zealand Breakers.
Riley is the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 3 SF in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 1 player in Pennsylvania.
Brad Underwood’s program didn’t originally crack Riley’s top five schools, but the Illini replaced Arkansas earlier this month ahead of his decision. Riley was in Champaign on an official visit on June 3 and has now chosen the Big Ten program in a landmark recruiting victory for Underwood and his staff.
Riley is commitment No. 2 for Illinois in the 2025 cycle. He now flanks Joilet (Ill.) Compass Prep four-star point guard Jeremiah Fears, the No. 27 recruit and No. 5 PG in the nation.

“Will Riley scores the basketball. He has three-level feel and comfort on the ball getting to his spots in the half court. Riley’s game is quirky. He has footwork and utilizes up and unders, hesitations, and footwork in the paint to create his advantage. Would like to see him tighten his overall handle. While he is a 40+% shooter from three over high volume and time, his release can be inconsistent. Listed in the 6-9 range, he is a good rebounder for his position. He can push the break and handle the ball in the half court. He will need to continue adding strength.
