Club director now admits they may 'have to sell' 25-goal striker amid Arsenal transfer interest

One Arsenal transfer target is now known to be very much available this summer after one club director’s confession.

Arsenal are in need of a new goalscorer.

The Gunners have missed out on Benjamin Sesko already this summer. Arsenal are now chasing a deal for Viktor Gyokeres, but the Sporting striker won’t come to the Emirates Stadium cheaply.

If a deal for the prolific Sweden international proves to beyond the Gunners’ means, then Mikel Arteta will have to pivot to alternative targets once again.

Jonathan David has been offered to Arsenal at a cut-price fee, and there is now the chance to pick up one in-form La Liga striker in a bargain deal.

Arsenal could force Girona to part with Artem Dovbyk

Spanish side Girona could be helpless to stop Artem Dovbyk leaving the club this summer.

Arsenal have shown an interest in Dovbyk, and it is easy to see why the Ukrainian has caught Arteta’s eye.

The 27-year-old Ukrainian was in sensational form last season, as he racked up 25 goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances, across all competitions, for Girona.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now reported that the 30-cap Ukraine international has a €40 million release clause in his current contract – equivalent to around £34 million.

Girona director Quique Carcel has now admitted: “I don’t want to sell Dovbyk, but if they pay €40m… You can’t do anything, you have to sell.”

Clearly, the Gunners could force Girona’s hand, if they feel that Dovbyk is the solution to their striker problem, and can convince him to join his compatriot Oleksandr Zinchenko in North London.

Arsenal ace Oleksandr Zinchenko needs to shine at Euro 2024

Whilst Dovbyk’s stock is on the rise, Zinchenko’s reputation took a hit last season. He has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, where he is considered something of a defensive liability.

Arsenal are willing to move Zinchenko on this summer, and will be hoping that he can impress at Euro 2024 in order to help attract potential suitors for his services. However, his showings in Germany have been a mixed bag so far.

It feels as though Arteta’s vision for Arsenal has moved beyond Zinchenko. Where once his eccentricities as a player elevated the Gunners, his flaws now stand out more clearly with each passing week.
