The Indiana Fever find themselves down by just two points following the first quarter of action on the road at Wintrust Arena as they face off against the Chicago Sky. With Chicago entering the second quarter up 28-26 in a WNBA matchup that features two of the most talked about rookies the sports has ever seen. As Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese square off for the third time this season following a pair of epic NCAA Tournament matchups at the college level.

ESPN’s Holly Rowe spoke with Clark following the first quarter of action on Sunday, asking the rookie sensation what early adjustments the Sky have made after squaring off with them for the third time in the month of June.

“I think they’re pushing it really well in transition,” Clark said. “I think we gotta make better decisions down here on offense so we can get back and play transition defense a little bit better, they’re killing us there.”

Chenney Carter has played a major role in the Sky’s early success against the Fever, making all four of her shot attempts with 11 points in the first quarter to lead all scorers. With Reese also shooting 100% from the field in the first quarter with six points and four rebounds for Chicago.

But Clark has also found her shot early in the game. Scoring eight points along with one rebound, steal, and assist apiece. Also drilling two three-point shots to start off the game in signature Clark fashion. Scoring the first basket of the game with an off the dribble, step back three-pointer followed by a deep range three to break a 10-10 tie and give the Fever a lead.

Clark has also had to combat getting picked up full-court and getting blitzed in the half-court by the Sky, also speaking to Rowe about how she plans on adjusting when two defenders get sent her way.

“Yeah, I just think get it out of my hand quickly. If they’re gonna send two at me that means somebody’s open and then we can play with an advantage going forward,” Clark said.

Indiana and Chicago’s first game of the season was a down-to-the-wire, one-point win for the Fever. With Sunday afternoon’s matchup seeming to already have all the makings of another exciting matchup and close finish between two of the most fascinating teams in the WNBA. As Indiana now enters halftime with a 46-45 lead on the road over the Sky.
