Arsenal one of five teams 'in consideration' to sign Bayern Munich star, personal call needed

Arsenal are reportedly in the run-in to sign one of Bayern Munich’s best players, though the Gunners face competition from four huge teams.

The Gunners are set for a busy transfer window despite a quiet start to the window, where Arsenal have so far only been linked to a handful of names as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his squad and to bridge the gap with Manchester City.

Girona attacker Artem Dovbyk has been rumoured with a move to Arsenal, as has Athletic Club and Spanish sensation Nico Williams, with a forward clearly wanted in north London this summer for the Gunners.

And it now appears that a Bayern superstar could also be on Arsenal’s radar.

Arsenal in the hunt to sign Bayern and Germany maestro Joshua Kimmich

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Arsenal are one of five teams ‘in consideration’ to sign Joshua Kimmich, who could be approached directly with the Bayer star not having an agent to work on his behalf.

Plettenberg wrote: “He is advised and supported in the background, but Joshua Kimmich officially still has no agent! Clubs that want him have to call him directly. Only five top clubs are still in consideration for Kimmich. Now or 2025: Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona. With about €20m gross per year, he is one of the absolute top earners at FC Bayern.”

With Arsenal in the market for a midfielder, a genuine world-class addition in Kimmich could be an exciting one for the Gunners, especially when paired with the likes of Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice.

However, considering how much Kimmich is demanding coupled with the Germany international already turning 29-years-old this year, there’s a lot of factors at play that could make signing the Bayern star a poor move for Arsenal.

Arsenal can sign a more suitable midfielder than Kimmich

Kimmich is rightly regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world as well as a useful option at right-back, with the 29-year-old often compared to Bayern legend Philipp Lahm for good reason.

Yet for what Arsenal need this summer in the window, a player like Kimmich might not be as suitable than other options in the market, with a young no. 6 who can operate alongside Odegaard and Rice the dream signing.

Whilst Kimmich could do this role, the midfielder’s age and aforementioned salary would make the German a less-than-efficient signing, especially with so many options already out there in the market for Arsenal to look into.
