Report: 'Exceptional' player left shocked after learning Newcastle are ready to sell him this summer

It’s no secret that Newcastle United will need to sell one or two members of Eddie Howe’s squad before June 30 to avoid sanctions next season.

If Newcastle don’t raise money by selling players before Sunday, there will be a shortfall in their three-year rolling figures – meaning Howe’s side could face a point deduction next season.

Everton and Nottingham Forest were both sanctioned for their PSR breaches last campaign, each handed point deductions.

And given Newcastle’s ambitious plans to return to the Champions League next year, that simply won’t be an option for the club.

By all accounts, Alexander Isak and Bruno Guimaraes will both be staying at St James’ Park this summer, a resounding victory for Newcastle.

But in order to keep their prized duo in the long-term, they’ll need to perform off the pitch, as well as on it.

That being said, selling loan-returnee Yankuba Minteh has transpired as the best option in Newcastle’s eyes to raise funds by Sunday.

If reports are to be believed, Minteh could be Everton-bound, and his reaction to Newcastle’s decision to sell him has now been made clear.

Yankuba Minteh was initially shocked by Newcastle’s decision to sell him

During his loan spell at Feyenoord last season, 21-year-old Minteh made 37 apperances, scoring 11 times and providing six assists.

One of those goals did come in the Champions League, an indicator of Minteh’s ‘exceptional’ potential.

That being said, The Athletic have now shared how Minteh felt when he received news that Newcastle were prepared to sell him upon his return this summer.

Newcastle only signed Minteh from Odense BK in Denmark one year ago, a player who could leave without playing a competitive game for the club.

Minteh is currently on holiday in The Gambia, keeping up his fitness.

And the report mentioned that Minteh was initially surprised by Newcastle’s decision.

The winger dreams of playing in the Premier League, but is enthused by the offers he has received of late.

Of course, Everton are said to be one of the clubs very interested in Minteh, and given his ambition to play in the top flight, a move could be an attractive option.

Sean Dyche and his team are desperate to avoid being in another relegation conversation this year, even if they could lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle.

Although, that being said, Chelsea could still scupper Newcastle’s chances of signing the striker.
