PSG now set to advance interest in £25m player Tottenham were in pole position to sign - Fabrizio Romano

Tottenham Hotspur could be handed a blow in their attempts to land one key transfer target this summer.

Spurs are yet to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s squad this summer but have made positive strides when it comes to offloading unwanted players.

Five players have left Tottenham on free transfers already this month, with Tanguy Ndombele the latest the be shown the exit door.

Timo Werner’s loan switch from RB Leipzig has also been extended by a further season but there is plenty of work to be done for Spurs.

Postecoglou has a pretty settled back four already after impressive seasons for Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Destiny Udogie.

However, with Emerson Royal hinting at a possible exit as AC Milan weigh up a move for the Brazilian, Spurs could need a replacement for the full-back.

But they look set to receive stern competition from French giants Paris Saint-Germain for one of their transfer targets this summer.

PSG want to advance Lutsharel Geertruida interest

Feyenoord’s Lutshrael Geertruida has emerged as a genuine option for Spurs in recent days.

It was claimed on Sunday that Tottenham are in pole position to land the Dutchman with Liverpool boss Arne Slot reluctant to reunite with his former player.

However, Fabrizio Romano has shared a concerning update for Spurs supporters as PSG are looking to ramp up talks with Geertruida over a move to France.

“Paris Saint-Germain want to advance fast on personal terms for Lutsharel Geertruida as there’s also interest from Premier League clubs,” the transfer insider wrote.

PSG still didn’t send formal proposal to Feyenoord. Geertruida, Tapsoba and dream target Yoro (priority Real Madrid) on PSG shortlist.”

Geertruida keen on Premier League move

While interest from PSG throws a spanner in the works for Tottenham, Geertruida is reportedly keen on a switch to England.

The £25 million-rated defender was spotted at Liverpool’s clash with West Ham back in March and The Mirror claim he’s a fan of the Premier League.

Whether or not that would be enough for Geertruida to snub a move to Paris in favour of a switch to Tottenham remains to be seen.

But it’s easy to see why Spurs are keen as the 23-year-old would tick plenty of boxes for Postecoglou as a defender who is able to play across the backline.
