£40m player compared to Sadio Mane has now told his club he wants to sign for Everton - Fabrizio Romano

Everton have now received a major boost in the transfer window – after a target gave priority to the Toffees ahead of other clubs trying to sign him.

Sean Dyche’s side could look a lot different in the 2024/25 campaign as Dominic Calvert-Lewin nears a move to Newcastle, while there are also doubts over Amadou Onana remaining at Goodison Park.

Nevertheless, Everton fans have now been given a welcome distraction from those two situations, as a player compared to Sadio Mane tells his club he wants to join the Toffees…

Yankuba Minteh wants to sign for Everton

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Yankuba Minteh is keen on a move to Everton – and has already told Newcastle about his decision.

The reliable Italian journalist wrote on X: “Yankuba Minteh, giving priority to Everton as his favourite destination with desire to play in the Premier League. Newcastle, informed of his priority to join Everton. Olympique Lyon are interested as they made contact for Minteh this weekend, as revealed yesterday.”

Newcastle value The Gambia international at £40m after his impressive 2023/24 campaign on loan at Feyenoord, where he scored 11 goals and also provided six assists in 37 appearances.

Minteh himself is said to be surprised at Newcastle’s decision to sell him, but remains eager to appear in the Premier League and is enthused by the chance of playing for Everton.

It has also been said that Kevin Thelwell, Director of Football at Goodison Park, has been personally pushing to sign the 19-year-old.

Toffees could land the new Sadio Mane

Minteh remains something of an unknown quantity in English football, so Everton fans may appreciate a comparison to a better known player to help provide an understanding of his playing style.

Interestingly, the teenager has been told he can reach “Sadio Mane levels” by a scouting page called Serbian Football Scout, and there are certainly similarities between the pair.

For one, Minteh is a similarly explosive player to the Senegal international, and can burst past defenders from a standing start – he is also a prolific dribbler like Mane, averaging 2.2 successful dribbles per game in the Eredivisie last season, while the finishing ability is also there too.
