Report: Former Real Madrid and Man United star could now be ‘tempted’ by Inter Miami move this summer

A former Real Madrid and Manchester United star is now reportedly open to joining Inter Miami this summer.

The Herons are set for a big transfer window in the coming weeks, with Inter Miami keen to sign a central defender after losing Nicolas Freire for the remainder of the year due to an ACL injury, leaving options short at the back.

Spanish soccer legend Sergio Ramos has been rumored with a move to Inter Miami, though incoming MLS franchise San Diego FC are believed to be the current favorite to sign the former Sevilla defender.

Yet it appears that Inter Miami could land an even more impressive signing than Ramos.

Raphael Varane open to Inter Miami move after Manchester United release

According to the Mirror, Raphael Varane could be ‘tempted’ with a move to Inter Miami this summer after being released by United at the end of the Premier League season.

As per the report, David Beckham is keen to make a move to bring the former France international to Florida, with Varane already reported with a switch to Inter Miami earlier this summer.

Whilst Varane’s wages could be a logistical problem for the Herons given that Inter Miami’s three Designated Player spots are all filled, a workaround could be reached that might lead to the 31-year-old defender heading to Chase Stadium.

Indeed, Inter Miami are now clearly a major player in the global soccer market, and working out a deal to sign Varane could be another huge step in the Herons becoming the dominate force in MLS.

Varane could begin a new trend of spending in MLS

The history of transfers in MLS is one of the most interesting in all of soccer given the unique rules clubs must abide by in order to operate, which is why Varane making the move to MLS could begin a new trend.

With only three DP spots to fill, clubs have often opted to make attackers or midfielders their big-money signings, with Inter Miami a clear example given that Lionel Messi is MLS’s highest-paid player.

Yet Varane making the move to Florida could shift a focus towards franchises spending big fees on defenders, with the aforementioned links to Ramos another potential hint towards such a change.
