Report: ‘Fantastic’ midfielder who Liverpool have held talks with is available for just £17m

Liverpool certainly need to make a splash in the summer transfer window if they are to succeed next season.

Arne Slot should be a busy man in the coming months, with the Dutchman having just been officially unveiled as the club’s new manager.

But to be an instant hit, he will need the backing of FSG, who have proven over the years that they are willing to spend money on the right players.

The most recent Anfield arrivals have all been relatively successful, with Liverpool having also been hugely successful when it comes to selling players.

Slot will be desperate to keep the majority of his squad together in the early stages, with a shakeup not exactly needed right now.

Liverpool can sign Khephren Thuram for just £17million

Stability will be key to any early success, although that shouldn’t stop the new man in the dugout from signing a handful of new players.

One player that the Reds have already opened talks with over a switch to Anfield is Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.

A new update on the 23-year-old has now emerged, with his current club valuing him at €20million (£16.9million), according to Il Romanista.

Thuram, who is the younger brother of Inter star Marcus Thuram and France legend Lilian Thuram, has made over 150 appearances for the Ligue 1 outfit.

Joining Nice from Monaco in 2019, the midfielder has one France cap to his name, with his current deal expiring next summer.

Arne Slot needs a new midfielder at Liverpool

Thuram was limited to just 23 appearances in all competitions last season, with his campaign disrupted by injury.

But his ability on the pitch came to light when fully fit, with the 23-year-old able to operate in both central and defensive midfield.

That may be an area that Slot will look to strengthen, particularly given that Thiago Alcantara has left Anfield.

Moreover, Wataru Endo could leave Liverpool after just one season, which would leave another gap in the club’s midfield.

Thuram was indeed looked at before the Japan ace moved to Merseyside, with Jurgen Klopp having been a fan of the ‘fantastic’ player.

But signing him will not be an easy task, with the midfielder certain to have plenty of suitors in the summer transfer window, which is now open.

Khephren did miss out on a spot in Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Euro 2024, but the Nice star will undoubtedly be cheering on his brother in Germany, with Marcus having made the cut.
