Report: 'One of the top 10 players in Europe' is on the verge of joining Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tottenham are closing in on one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, according to a recent report.

Since Harry Kane’s departure last summer, the North Londoners have been heavily reliant on Son Heung-min for goals.

With Richarlison not quite making the grade and potentially moving on, it became evident a number nine was needed this window.

With that said, they are now close to signing one.

Tottenham close to signing Santiago Gimenez

According to TUDN Radio’s Chiquis, Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez is closing in on a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old striker netted 26 times whilst laying on eight assists across 42 appearances for the Eredivisie outfit last term and has been attracting widespread interest from clubs across the continent, including Liverpool.

The report further notes that Feyenoord have not only received an offer from Tottenham but also La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

However, Atleti’s bid is lower.

Santiago Gimenez price tag

Feyenoord have requested Atleti to match Tottenham’s bid but as it stands, it seems they are reluctant to go any higher.

It hasn’t been reported how much Spurs’ bid was, however, given the Dutch set a £42m asking price, it’s likely to be somewhere close to that figure.

Barring any late movement from Atleti, it appears all that’s left to complete is personal terms – which aren’t expected to be an issue.

Gimenez, who has been labelled as ‘one of the top 10 players in Europe’, is currently away with Mexico at the Copa America, so negotiations will have to commence during the tournament.

Though, that won’t be much of an issue as he is eager to make the switch to North London, so terms should be pretty easy to agree upon.
