Report: Aston Villa are winning the race to sign 'one of the best strikers in the world'

Aston Villa are in pole position to land a very highly-rated number nine this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.

The Villans have been one of the most active clubs in the market as they edge closer to adding a second and third new addition.

Samuel Iling-Junior and Enzo Barrenechea are set to follow Lewis Dobbin to Villa Park and now it seems the club are trying to wrap up a deal for a fourth signing.

Aston Villa in pole position to sign Tammy Abraham

According to Il Romanista, Aston Villa are in pole position to sign Roma striker Tammy Abraham this summer transfer window.

The Englishman is keen on a return to the Premier League and has been attracting interest from a number of clubs, including newly promoted Leicester City.

The Serie A giants are hoping to receive £25m for the 26-year-old, who is out of contract in 2026 – so this summer would be the last chance to sell him for his true market value.

Abraham is considered one of the main candidates to leave Roma.

Tammy Abraham statistics

Abraham endured an injury-hit season last term making just 12 appearances, netting once.

Though, the previous year he managed to score nine whilst laying on seven assists, taking his total goal involvements to 16.

The former Chelsea forward, who was labelled ‘one of the best strikers in the world’, has history with the Villans having spent a season on loan there during the 2018/19 campaign, netting 26 times.

As such, Villa should still have a direct line of communication with either him or his representatives, giving them an advantage over rival suitors.

The only potential stumbling block would be game time, as he’d likely be joining as Ollie Watkins’ back-up.

That may deter his desire to join.
