The payment Celtic will receive for quartet involved at EURO 2024 is now set in stone

Celtic no longer have any players active at 2024 following Scotland’s exit from the competition at the hands of Hungary yesterday.

Callum McGregor and Anthony Ralston were influential figures in Steve Clarke’s side and featured in all three Group A matches against Germany, Switzerland and Hungary.

On the other hand, James Forrest and Greg Taylor were unused substitutes throughout the fixtures, merely having to spectate as their nation recorded a draw and two losses.

Nevertheless, Celtic now know the fee they will receive for the quartet given Scotland are now on their way home from Germany.

Earlier this month, we told that Celtic would be in line to receive a chunk from UEFA’s Club Benefits Programme in light of having four players present at EURO 2024.

UEFA have a €140 million pot spread out across the entire competition, with the club earning a little every day (approximately €9,400) that their men were involved in training or matches at the finals.

In light of Scotland’s elimination, each of Celtic’s four individuals have netted their club €188,000 for 20 days’ work.

Doing the maths and currency conversion, equates to the Bhoys being awarded a sum of £636,000 for their collective efforts. Initially, it was thought they would obtain £634,000, but fluctuating exchange rates have come in handy.

This money isn’t transformational for Celtic; if anything, it is a drop in the ocean when factoring in the wider operational reality at Parkhead. Nevertheless, it is a nice bonus and worthy of highlighting in the midst of Scotland’s exit.
