America’s Sweethearts are the Dallas cowboy cheerleaders on Netflix’s new reality show. However, those watching think they are “paid like fast food worker” while their bosses “live like billionaires”.
The Netflix series follows the 2023-24 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders squad from start to finish — kicking off at auditions and training camp and continuing all the way through the NFL season.
America’s Sweethearts make a living
Some cheerleaders, especially those from high-profile squads, can make about $500 per game. The Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders, known as America’s Sweethearts, earn approximately $15-20 per hour.
They can make $500 per game, resulting in an annual salary of $75,000. The DCC put up with long hours and low wages, but America’s Sweethearts director Greg Whiteley says they “know the price of poker.”
The team earns more than the average $150 a game most cheerleaders earn. However, Greg told Glamour, “Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders are on the highest end of that [NFL cheer] pay scale.”
‘None of them are rich’
The show’s director said Dallas Cowboys earn more than most. He said, “I’ve heard horror stories of what a typical NFL cheerleader [makes], but the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders fall into a new category.”
“None of them are rich. None of them are getting paid a ton, but it isn’t the same dearth of payment that I think other NFL cheerleaders have to experience,” Whiteley added.
Class of 2022 cheerleader, Kat Puryear, put the salary into perspective. “I would say I’m making like, a substitute teacher,” she says. “I would say I’m making… like a Chick-fil-A worker who works full time.”
Netflix fans complain of ‘low pay’
Netflix viewers tuning into the new reality series are complaining that the cheerleaders get paid a lot less than their bosses. Many say they need higher salaries, healthcare, and better agents.
One fan wrote, “These girls need agents. And a healthcare plan. They make Jones a LOT of money.” Another penned, “Right? Then they are talking about all the surgeries they need and their injuries.”
“It’s $500 a game now for DCC, obviously not enough regarding how much money they bring back to DC,” remarked a viewer, while a fellow fan said, “It’s sickening how little these elite dancers are paid.”
