Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is entering his second season at the helm in Boulder as he looks to continue shifting the culture of the program and hopefully generating some wins for the Buffaloes as they join the Big 12 Conference.

Sanders quickly jumped from high school head coach, to the head man at FCS Jackson State, to now the head coach at Colorado. His first FBS coaching job at one of the most unique destinations in college football. Making him a unique candidate to speak on what the best part about being Colorado’s head coach is, a question Joel Klatt has asked Sanders and every other head coach in his Big Noon Conversations series.

“Every part is the best part, it’s not bad part,” Sanders said. “This ain’t work. Like coming into this wonderful stadium on this beautiful campus, it’s unbelievable and the love, and the respect, and the culture that’s being created here. It’s fascinating.”

In 2022 Colorado finished the season 1-11 and was far from relevant in the college football landscape. Which is not exactly Deion Sanders’ style following one of the most decorated NFL careers a defensive back has ever had with a unique style and confidence to match it.

Since taking over the program Colorado has skyrocketed in popularity, becoming one of the most talked about teams in the country thanks to Sanders. Also breaking numerous viewership and attendance records in the process during a 4-8 season last year.

While one win to four wins is an improvement, Sanders is not satisfied. Pinpointing what the worst part of his job is after not being able to pick one specific highlight of being the Buffaloes head coach.

“So it is no bad part. I hate to lose, you know that, I hate that. I hate that feeling because I want everybody to be happy and pleased with our performances each week,” Sanders explained.

“Probably the bad part is when we lose, and you still gotta make that ride through town, and home, and stop at a restaurant. That’s the part, because I feel like I let you down,” Sanders said to Klatt, a Colorado alumni.

After a 4-3 season in year one at Jackson State in 2020, Sanders led the Tigers to two straight double-digit win seasons and conference titles in years two and three. Which he will look to translate on a bigger stage as the Buffaloes continue to draw an audience with Coach Prime at the helm.
