Founders of Greenham Trust Sir Peter Michael CBE, Malcolm Morris, and David Bailey retire from board

Three founders of the Greenham Trust have retired as trustees at its most recent board meeting.

Sir Peter Michael CBE, Malcolm Morris, and David Bailey all stepped down after dedicating 27 years of “exceptional voluntary service” to the trust which gives grant funding and support to charitable, community and voluntary organisations in West Berkshire and North Hampshire.

Sir Peter, known for founding popular radio station Classic FM and The Vineyard hotel group, founded the trust alongside Mr Morris, a chartered accountant, in 1997.

Mr Bailey, who has a background in finance and management, joined later.

Greenham Trust CEO Chris Boulton said: “We are incredibly grateful to Sir Peter, Mr Morris and Mr Bailey for their profound foresight and wisdom in bringing this unique and ambitious project to life.

“Without them Greenham Common might have become an international airport, a theme park, or a housing development.

“The ripples of what they started all those years ago, have now created an amazing asset for the area.”

Mr Morris played a pivotal role in working with Sir Peter to realise the vision of a philanthropic business park for the benefit of the community.

The trust uses its investment in Greenham Business Park and other property assets to generate surplus income to support a wide range of community projects and initiatives.

This visionary project has now generated over £78 million in donations to worthy causes across the Newbury area.

The trust stated that new trustees would be joining the board in the coming months, “further solidifying the depth of expertise and ensuring the trust’s future and continued strength”.
