‘Gareth loves him’: Declan Rice says £50m player Tottenham want to sign has shocked so many people recently

Gareth Southgate made a bold call ahead of Euro 2024 as he snubbed Tottenham Hotspur star James Maddison.

The decision hasn’t exactly come off well so far either with England struggling for creativity in the middle of the park.

Southgate opted to bring the likes of Eberechi Eze, Conor Gallagher and Adam Wharton over James Maddison.

All of the above have been linked with moves to Tottenham but are yet to start a game at Euro 2024. However, that looks set to change this evening as Gallagher is in line to start for the Three Lions against Slovenia.

The Chelsea star will reportedly replace Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield and Ange Postecoglou will likely have a keen eye on the midfielder.

Indeed, it’s been claimed that Postecoglou has personally requested the signing of Gallagher.

It’s fair to say that England and Arsenal star Declan Rice is also a huge fan of Gallagher and has been speaking about the Spurs target ahead of tonight’s clash.

Rice lauds Tottenham target Conor Gallagher

Speaking to talkSPORT ahead of England vs Slovenia, Rice claimed that Southgate admires Gallagher and expects the midfielder to impress should he start this evening.

“Look, obviously you’ve seen Conor Gallagher’s season this year at Chelsea and if he does start I think you’re going to see exactly what he done at Chelsea this year,” the Arsenal man said.

“He surprised a lot of people. On the ball, off the ball, what he gives for the team, how unselfish he is.

“I know Gareth loves him. Equally as much he loves Trent as well and he loves all the other midfield players he can pick from.”

Tottenham concerned over Gallagher move

Spurs have been long linked with a move for Gallagher but are yet to firm up that interest this summer.

The 24-year-old is valued at around £50 million by Chelsea but Spurs are apparently worried they won’t be able to land Postecoglou’s midfield target.

Gallagher is keen to remain at Stamford Bridge and given his reluctance to leave his boyhood club, Spurs may be facing an uphill task when it comes to signing him.
