Report: Wolves showing interest in £8.5m Euro 2024 player, but at least four other clubs want him too

Wolves have reportedly set their sights on a player currently at Euro 2024.

Gary O’Neil is seeking to build a bigger squad for the 2024/25 season, after injuries really hindered him in the second half of last season.

The club have already brought in Rodrigo Gomes, with Pedro Lima to sign on July 1 from Sport Recife. Tommy Doyle had already turned his loan move to the club permanent.

Wolves are now said to be looking at a player who has impressed at Euro 2024.

It was reported last night by La Arena that Wolves are one of a few clubs to be showing interest in Hellas Verona star Tomas Suslov.

Winger Suslov plays for Slovakia, and has turned out against Belgium and Ukraine so far.

He has a contract with Hellas Verona until 2027, and is said to be valued at at least £8.5 million. The Italian club have not yet received any proposals for him. At the moment, clubs are waiting.

It is suggested that any negotiations will only happen after Slovakia exit Euro 2024.

Wolves have fairly strong competition to sign the player, with Roma, Atalanta and Bologna all showing interest at the moment. There is further interest in Germany, while Wolves and Nice are also keen.

At Euro 2024, Suslov has come off the bench in both of Slovakia’s games so far against Belgium and Ukraine. He is said to have ‘amply demonstrated that he is a player with an international profile’.

More focus on young players for Wolves

So Wolves have been linked with another young player, who may have the potential to develop into a top star.

Suslov, who can also play as an attacking midfielder, is 22 and has spent the last season on loan with Hellas Verona in Italy before turning in permanent midway through. Before that, he plied his trade at Dutch outfit Groningen, for whom he made 96 appearances, scoring five goals and making 12 assists.

Given the continued speculation about Pedro Neto, it may well be that Wolves do try to push for Suslov. Interestingly, Suslov actually finished last season with a slightly higher take-on success rate than Neto in the league (51.4% vs 42%, via fbref), suggesting he’s someone who is decent at dribbling.

Even if Neto stayed, Wolves could probably do with one more wide forward.
