Danny Rohl handed potential transfer boost as Sheffield Wednesday eye striker signing - opinion

Sheffield Wednesday may have been handed a potential boost in the race to sign one of their striker targets.

Sheffield Wednesday have several names on their summer transfer radar, having already signed three new players.

The Owls have welcomed in free agent duo Ben Hamer and Max Lowe, also signing right-back Yan Valery on a permanent deal from Angers.

Danny Rohl is enjoying a positive start to his first pre-season at Hillsborough with many more players expected to come and go this summer.

It looks like Rohl will target attacking signings after bolstering his defensive third, with a number of strikers linked.

Sheffield Wednesday are keen to re-sign Ike Ugbo but that may prove to be an expensive pursuit for the Owls.

We’ve now seen Las Palmas striker Sory Kaba linked with a move to Sheffield Wednesday, after a difficult maiden season in La Liga.

Sheffield Wednesday handed potential boost in race to sign Sory Kaba

Kaba, 28, is best known in England for his loan spell with Cardiff City during the second half of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Guinea international striker scored eight goals in 17 Championship outings to help fire the Bluebirds to safety that season.

He then earned himself a move to La Liga with Las Palmas last summer. But in 17 league appearances, Kaba scored just once.

Reports say that Sheffield Wednesday and Watford are in the race to sign Kaba this summer.

And Kaba may have edged further towards the exit door at Las Palmas after the Spanish outfit announced a new striker signing.

Ivan Cedric has joined the club on a permanent deal from Valladolid, amid suggestions that Kaba could be leaving the club this summer.

Sheffield Wednesday must strike Sory Kaba transfer now

Kaba, per his highlights online, looks like a very similar striker to Ugbo in that he’s very clinical in the box, and will put in the yards when out of possession.

And being a cheaper option, he looks like a very eligible alternative to Ugbo, who may take up much of Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer budget.

It’s claimed that Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is ready to spend up to £1.5million on a new striker this summer.

Kaba, being out of favour and now even further down the pecking order, may cost even less than £1.5million; he was snapped up by Las Palmas for a reported fee of around £1.7million last summer.

The race for his signature may soon heat up given Cedric’s arrival at Las Palmas. So Sheffield Wednesday must continue their early momentum in the transfer market and get a deal for either Kaba or Ugbo over the line.
