Report: Sheffield Wednesday transfer target has now completed his medical ahead of summer move

Sheffield Wednesday are set to complete a third summer signing following a successful medical.

Danny Rohl has not wasted any time at the start of this summer’s transfer window, with Max Lowe and Ben Hamer already coming through the doors at Hillsborough.

Rohl will be looking to build on a brilliant end to last season, where they managed to stay up in the Championship following three successive victories at the end of the season.

The likes of Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have both committed their future to Sheffield Wednesday for the following season, with optimism at a high in the north of the Steel City.

Wednesday boss Rohl has no doubt been a massive factor in current players committing to the club after their 20th place finish.

Rohl had identified a player he had previously worked with in the Premier League and it’s understood that his arrival on S6 is imminent.

Yan Valery completes Sheffield Wednesday medical

Yan Valery looks set to join up with Rohl’s side after he underwent a successful medical, per The Star, after it was revealed that Valery was set to undergo his medical.

The Frenchman will reportedly join for a fee, unlike Wednesday’s previous signings this summer, showing that chairman Dejphon Chansiri is willing to back the German manager to propel the Owls up the league and build on last season’s successes.

Valery previously had a spell under Rohl, when the German was assistant manager to Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

Rohl’s appointment to the Premier League outfit coincided with Valery being thrown into the first team, becoming a regular at both full-back and right-midfield for Southampton.

Squad depth key for Danny Rohl at Sheffield Wednesday

The right side of the defence for Wednesday this season will see Valery battle for his place in the starting squad alongside vice-captain Palmer and Pol Valentin.

Under Rohl’s system, it’s clear how much he utilises his wing-backs both in attack and on the retreat.

This extra insurance of players at right wing-back will ensure he has players to bring on for what is a very physically demanding, yet crucial role in the team.

Valery also provides an extra attacking threat in comparison to the likes of Palmer, who may be used in situations when Wednesday are up against the cosh.

Many factors play into why this is such a shrewd bit of business for Rohl ahead of the new season, by filling his over-performing squad with familiar faces that he knows he can get the best out of.
