Sources now suggest interest from the Premier League has gathered in the pursuit of the promising defender with The Posh considering their options.

TBR also understands that Brighton & Hove Albion are one of the sides who have shown an interest in Edwards.

After enquiries have landed from the Seagulls, Newcastle and Everton, it is Southampton who are believed to be pushing for the signature of the 21-year-old.

Edwards featured a staggering 55 times for The Posh last season, but the lure of Premier League money may prove too much this summer.

What Peterborough’s director of football has said about Ronnie Edwards

Edwards played a huge role in Peterborough’s 2023/24 season having only missed one of their games in the League One campaign.

Along the way, the centre-back was able to provide The Posh with two goals but even more impressively only picked up two yellow cards across his 55 appearances.

Having previously turned down interest from the Premier League, Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry had some big words to say about the young defender.

“Ronnie is an exceptional player and he will go. He is only 20 and he has played 19 times for England under-19s and 20s,” he told the media last August.

“He is the only player outside of the English Premier League in either of those two squads. He was part of the under-19 European Championship-winning team, played all four games at the World Cup at under-20 level.”
