West Ham’s mission impossible as Arsenal reportedly eye £38m star after 28 goal/assist season

West Ham United seemingly could be dealt a big blow by Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

West Ham and Arsenal both need to bolster their respective attacking ranks in the summer transfer window.

Julen Lopetegui needs to add some real quality to his ranks at the London Stadium, and is apparently desperate to get the majority of his business wrapped up by the time our pre-season campaign begins on July 20th.

Mikel Arteta is in the same boat at the Emirates. Although he has a far superior squad at his disposal than Lopetegui does, there are certain weakness that he needs to address as well.

That’s, of course, none of our business over at West Ham, but one of Arteta’s plans could well impact us this summer it seems.

The Gunners are said to be moving into place to sign a £38 million star in the summer window…

Arsenal to win summer transfer window race for West Ham target

It could well be mission impossible for the Hammers this summer, if we are to sign one player in particular.

According to a report from Belgian website GVA, Arsenal are showing the most concrete interest in signing Johan Bakayoko – a player who the Hammers made an enquiry for last summer.

It is suggested that PSV could demand around €45 million (£38 million) for the forward – a price that Arsenal can easily pay.

Don’t get me wrong, West Ham have plenty of cover in the right wing department. Lopetegui has already signed Luis Guilherme this summer after all.

However, the longer that the summer goes on without a new striker being signed, the more I feel like Jarrod Bowen could be used as a centre-forward.

If that happens, another right winger may well be needed, but the chance to sign Bakayoko may well have long since passed.

The Belgium international would be a fine addition for us, but the Gunners are clearly leading the race for his signature.

He bagged 14 goals and 14 assists in 48 games for PSV Eindhoven last season – a truly sensational return for a 21-year-old.

The 21-year-old is absolutely rapid, possesses exceptional technical ability and has genuine product inside the final third, and his stats last season prove.

Johan Bakayoko would strengthen West Ham immeasurably but unfortunately for us it seems like the winger could be set to join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
