TV star 'visited by ghost of her son's father' while on date with her new boyfriend

Actress Jill Halfpenny has shared captivating claims she was visited by her ex’s ghost, the father of her son, while out on a date.

There may be no concrete proof that ghosts exist, but if you ask people, nine times out of ten they have an intriguing tale of the paranormal to tell. Some may tell you they’ve seen or heard a loved one from beyond the grave, others may swear they’ve felt an unknown presence that made their blood run cold. Nobody can truly know what they’ve experienced for certain. Meanwhile, TV star Jill Halfpenny is entirely convinced she was visited by the ghost of her ex-partner, who she strongly believes gave his blessing for her to move on.

Jill Halfpenny ‘was talking’ to her ex’s ghost on a date

The 48-year-old actress known for the competition series Strictly Come Dancing and shows like Byker Grove and Cuckoo recently gave context as to why she believes so strongly in the supernatural.

Tragically, her ex Matt Janes, father to her son, passed away after suffering a heart attack at the gym when he was 43. It was on the second date with her current partner Ian that Matt made contact with her, she told The Sunday Post in an interview.

“I do believe in ghosts,” she said. “I was going on the second date with my new partner, Ian, and I was talking to Matt. I was saying, ‘Is this OK; how do you feel about it?’ and the song Budapest came on. It’s the song Matt had said reminded him of me. It was a sign that I should go for it.”

The George Ezra song left her convinced not only of his presence but of his desire for her to move on and find happiness in his absence.

She has opened up about feeling “cursed” in the wake of Matt’s death. However, she now believes she found new love with Ian at just the “right time”, believing she may never find love again before he walked into her life.

“It sounds so cheesy,” she told Prima Magazine, “but I think Ian and I met at the perfect time.”

Jill Halfpenny was already grappling with the trauma of losing her dad

Matt died under similar circumstances to Jill’s father, who passed when she was a young child.

She underwent therapy to come to terms with what happened, floored when her partner met a similar fate. “Like, how can that happen twice?” she asked.

“That drove me to therapy to investigate those feelings because I thought, ‘I’m not going to live alongside that narrative.’”

It’s heartening to hear that she and Ian are now happy, and she’s able to feel a connection with those she’s loved and lost.
