Report shares whether Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing any players right now

After a progressive first season under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham Hotspur are expected to attack the summer transfer market.

Thanks to Daniel Levy’s work, Spurs are thought to be in a strong financial position, not sharing the same PSR concerns of some of their Premier League rivals.

Heading into the summer window, Tottenham’s priority targets were thought to be a new defensive midfielder, as well as versatile forward.

Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher was once again expected to be at the forefront of Spurs’ plans, as well as ambitious interest in Alexander Isak.

Right now, it seems as if neither of those deals are progressing, with there seemingly no chance that Isak leaves Newcastle United.

That being said, Eberechi Eze has emerged as a concrete option to improve Postecoglou’s squad.

TBR recently shared that Tottenham have made an enquiry for Eze, who would be keen to join the club.

That being said, on their round-up of Spurs’ business right now, The Athletic have been sharing their own thoughts on the likelihood of Levy welcoming a new signing imminently.

Tottenham not close to first signing despite Eberechi Eze and Archie Gray interest

As well as reiterating Spurs’ interest in Gallagher, they also mentioned recent news that the club are admirers of Leeds United 18-year-old Archie Gray.

However, when assessing how close Tottenham are to finalising deals for any of the players mentioned in this piece, it wasn’t the positive update some may have hoped for.

Tottenham are not close to concluding their first signing, even if they have been making progress with those leave the club.

Last summer, Guglielmo Vicario was Postecoglou’s first ‘proper’ new signing, after loan deals for Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski were made permanent.

Currently away with Italy at Euro 2024, Vicario’s transfer to north London was announced on June 27.

Whilst the Euros and Copa America should be considered as big factors, that would suggest Spurs are slightly behind on last year’s pace.

Admittedly, most Premier League clubs are yet to make significant moves, but Tottenham shouldn’t relax in that regard.

Perhaps some consider Spurs’ renewal of Timo Werner’s loan as a new signing, but that won’t suffice for most.

All that being said, there is now some concern that Postecoglou has lost another ‘popular’ staff member just weeks after Chris Davies’ departure.
