'Incredible' Arsenal player set to be benched at Euro 2024 tonight - journalist

Arsenal have a host of stars at Euro 2024 with many playing key roles for their countries.

Both Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are in action for England tonight as they bid to secure top spot in Group C.

The Arsenal duo have started in each of England’s opening two games and that’s unlikely to change this evening, with Gareth Southgate set to stick to his guns with just one change in midfield.

Elsewhere in Group D, two Arsenal players will face off as France are set for a decisive clash against Poland.

Jakub Kiwior’s Poland need an unlikely win to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages while France need to outscore the Netherlands to secure top spot.

However, according to French journalist Julien Froment, William Saliba is set to drop to the bench.

Saliba set to benched for France vs Poland

Not many expected Saliba to get an opportunity for France at Euro 2024 after starting just 10 games for his country before the tournament.

Didier Deschamps has often preferred a centre-back duo of Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano and Liverpool star Ibrahima Konate, despite Saliba’s excellent performances in the Premier League.

Yet, Saliba has started in each of France’s opening games and impressed alongside Upamecano.

But it would appear that Konate will get an opportunity to impress in France’s final group game, with Froment sharing the latest team news on X.

“Konaté for Saliba, Rabiot Kanté Tchouaméni in midfield, up front: attacks Barcola with Mbappé and Dembélé,” the journalist wrote.

Saliba’s Euro 2024 stats

Saliba has rarely looked comfortable while playing as a left-sided centre-back for France.

For Arsenal, the centre-back has delivered ‘incredible’ performances alongside Gabriel Magalhaes on the right-hand side.

The 22-year-old has just started to replicate his club form for France at the Euros and his statistics (via Sofascore) at the tournament have been impressive.

  • 2 games played
  • 2 clean sheets
  • 97% pass completion
  • 0.5 tackles (p90)
  • 3.5 ball recoveries (p90)
  • 3 clearances (p90)
