'There have been approaches': 'Extraordinary' Arsenal player admits he could leave this summer

An Arsenal player whom Mikel Arteta welcomed to the club back in 2021, has now admitted that it could be time to leave this summer.

Right now, all seems pretty quiet around the Emirates, with Edu and his team perhaps being able to conduct their business behind the scenes.

In truth, it doesn’t seem like many clubs are making progress bringing players in during Euro 2024, meaning both July and August could be very busy.

Almost by this time last year, Arsenal had signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea – a good indicator of how much of the window will be delayed for all.

But just because deals aren’t getting over the line, it doesn’t mean Edu isn’t locked into negotiations.

And this summer for Arsenal, those who are departing the club could be just as important as those arriving.

With that in mind, Nuno Tavares has now shared an update on his future plans.

Tavares is set to return from his Nottingham Forest loan this summer, having made 12 appearances in total.

The Portuguese full-back still has one-year left on his contract, meaning there’s a decision to be made.

Nuno Tavares says Arsenal are his priority but admits he has had ‘approaches’

Speaking to Sport TV in Portugal via Ao Minuto, the 24-year-old was asked to provide some clarity on his future plans.

Tavares said his representatives have been in contact with other clubs, but said his priority was to return to Arsenal for now.

He said: “My priority is to return to Arsenal. Then, only the future will tell.

“Everyone knows that I have another year on my contract with Arsenal. I have people I trust taking care of my future.

“There have been some approaches, but I always leave it to whoever is in charge of taking care of my future.”

Of course, it’s pretty clear by this point that it would be in Arsenal’s best interests if Tavares sought an exit this summer.

It would be hugely surprising if the once called, ‘extraordinary’ full-back was able to make his way back into Arteta’s plans, who appeared to lose patience with his progress.

Of course, Arsenal are also willing to sell Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko this summer, meaning there could be something of a left-back exodus.
