'What I understand': Alasdair Gold says Tottenham are considering bidding for 'extraordinary' £16m title-winner

Tottenham are looking at a number of potential new signings and could be set to bring in a winger who won a league title last season.

Ange Postecoglou insisted before the season ended that the club moved to improve in the summer and after already sealing a return for Timo Werner, more signings are expected.

For Tottenham, coming up short in the Champions League hunt has cost them revenue and that means they must now carefully consider value for money deals.

And one of those value for money deals could see them turn to a winger who some at Spurs know very well already.

Tottenham considering whether to bring Marcus Edwards back this summer

Speaking in his latestQ&A for Football.London, Gold was asked about potential interest from Spurs in Edwards.

And answering the question, Gold has said that Edwards is definitely a player on the radar.

“Spurs have certainly considered a return for Marcus Edwards, with their former winger counting as club-trained and available at a cut price from Sporting due to their 35% sell-on clause,” Gold said.

“They’re monitoring that situation and whether it’s more beneficial to make the move or simply take a cut of any potential fee.

“From what I understand the player would be happy to return and has made no secret of his desire to come back to England to play in the Premier League.”

Edwards a cheap squad option for Ange Postecoglou

With reports suggesting Edwards could come back to Tottenham for just £16m, this is the sort of deal a club like Tottenham will consider.

Edwards, as we know, had a superb season with Sporting Lisbon last season and already knows Pedro Porro well from their time together in Portugal.

Indeed, Porro has labelled Edwards an ‘extraordinary‘ talent in the past, such is his admiration for the winger.

Given Gold’s update here, then, Marcus Edwards could well find himself back in North London before too long.
