Report: Newcastle have left the door 'open' to sign £37m player who Eddie Howe really rates

Newcastle United are in need of doing some business this month to balance the books but that does not look like stopping them from make some signings.

Eddie Howe‘s side are one of the clubs who are battling this month’s PSR deadline and are still in need of offloading some of their players.

However, Newcastle have still been in the market to bring players to St James’ Park this month.

Lloyd Kelly arrived on a free transfer following his departure from Bournemouth following the end of his contract.

More potential arrivals could be heading to Tyneside with Newcastle also said to be eyeing a possible upgrade on the right wing.

But Howe is also believed to have his eyes on a player who he is a big admirer of and the door for a deal to be concluded may have just been left open.

Newcastle could still make £37m transfer work

One player who has been strongly linked with a potential move to Newcastle this summer is Everton‘s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It has been claimed that it would cost Newcastle £37m if they were to sign Calvert-Lewin this summer.

However, it was suggested a deal to see him make the move north to Tyneside had been closed by the Toffees.

But it seems as if there is something which may well be keeping this potential deal alive.

According to i news, Calvert-Lewin is still refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park.

The former England international went into this season with just one year remaining on his current contract on Merseyside.

And Calvert-Lewin’s reluctance to sign a new deal at Everton is believed to have kept the door open for Newcastle to pull off the potential deal.

It is also said in the report that Howe remains a big admirer of the Everton talisman.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could replace Callum Wilson

If Calvert-Lewin was to land at Newcastle, it would provide Callum Wilson with a telling idea of where his future lies.

It has been suggested West Ham have already made contact with Wilson over a potential switch this summer.

Replacing him with Calvert-Lewin would potentially be a move which may not inspire too many on Tyneside given his injury record.

In offloading Wilson for Calvert-Lewin, Newcastle would be replacing one injury-riddled striker with another – only slightly younger.

It would certainly be a controversial signing.
